Sometimes researchers recognize that they need background information on a topic before they can truly begin researching it, similar to how a smart lawyer will look at a legal encyclopedia or treatise before starting primary research on an unfamiliar topic. It shows wisdom, not weakness. The more you know about a subject, the better prepared you can be to research it.
These databases did not fit within any of the other topics on this page, but can still help you locate background information on a subject. As an example, Congressional Research Service Reports are a wealth of information on major issues to get you up to speed, and they provide solid starting points for research.
Depending on what background information you are looking for, you may also or instead be interested in our news-related databases.
