Book and Article Requests
If you're looking for a book, you should start out by searching WorldCat Discovery, one of our online catalogs. This catalog allows you to search the holdings of both University of Baltimore Libraries (Law and the RLB Library); all University System of Maryland libraries combined; or libraries worldwide.
If the book is available from a USMAI library (including either the Law Library or the RLB Library):
You can request it yourself directly via the catalog. When you're viewing the catalog record, click on the Request Item button located under the University System of Maryland Libraries section. On the next screen, select University of Baltimore Law Library as your campus affiliation. You will then be prompted to enter your UBalt network ID and password. The subsequent screen will prompt you to select the library where you want the book to be sent.
Books shipped to the Law Library from non-UBalt USMAI libraries usually arrive within 1-5 business days. You will be notified by email that the book has arrived. If you're a full-time faculty member, we will check it out to you and deliver it to your mailbox or office.
Additionally, if a book isn't available from another USMAI library or an article isn't available from any of our research databases, we can get the item from another library. Simply follow the link to ILLiad, our online interlibrary loan (ILL) system, on our ILL page, sign in using your UBalt network ID and password, and enter the citation information for the item you need.
Please note that the amount of time it takes for books to arrive from libraries outside the consortium can vary greatly. It can take anywhere from to 2-10 business days depending on the geographic location of the lending library and the method of shipment used. You will be notified by email when a book has arrived. If you're a full-time faculty member, we will route it your mailbox or office. Requests for articles can usually be fulfilled electronically within 24-72 hours depending on availability. Articles are posted directly to your ILL account. You will receive a notification email letting you know when an article is available for retrieval.
If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact Bijal Shah, Electronic Resources/ILL/Reference Librarian, or call 410-837-4578.
