If your topic is based on a case or a statute, you should begin by reviewing the Citing References in Westlaw and the Shepardizing results in Lexis.
- Check both Lexis and Westlaw. As you can see below, you may get slightly different results in each platform.
- Check to see if there are any flags concerning conflicting subsequent case law or proposed legislation. Skim those cases or proposed bills to see if they truly conflict with your idea or overturn your law.
- Check the secondary sources under the "Citing References" tab in Westlaw or the Shepard's Report's "Other Citing Sources" in Lexis.
- Create Alerts for any changes to your case or statute by clicking the bell "Alert" icon in either platform.
